Smarita Sengupta, a quiet, business-minded young woman from India decided to do something about sex trafficking and created Destiny Foundation/Reflection. Tanya Monsef Bunger, Board Chair for Global Women’s Leadership Network, tells the story of her friend Smarita’s courage and persistence in the face of great odds, as well as the brilliance of Smarita’s economic ideas about what to do to bring women out of this modern-day slavery.

Tanya Monsef Bunger is an executive coach and global facilitator. Her vision is a world in which men and women work in partnership to lead change globally. Tanya designs leadership training, leads workshops, provides one-on-one coaching, and facilitates conversations with clients around the world. She speaks globally about the power of leading from authenticity as a way to create harmony in the workplace. She is Dean’s Executive Professor, Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University (SCU)and leads the Global Fellows program. Tanya is active in various community programs and non-profits, she is the Board Chair for the Global Women’s Leadership Network, co-founder of SF Turkish Women’s International Network chapter, on the board of My Own Business Institute and the SCU Board of Fellows.

Smarita Sengupta is the founder and director of Destiny Reflection, a Kolkata-based social enterprise that rehabilitates survivors of human trafficking. A fellow of Global Women’s Leadership Network (GWLN) and Columbia University & Ford, she established Destiny Reflection to help women and girls develop life skills, and to provide housing and employment for safe reintegration. Products made by survivors now retail globally. She is a recipient of the Leader of Impact Award from GWLN; Iconic Women of the Year Creating a Better World at Women Economic Forum, 2017 and was nominated for CNN & News18 Indian of the Year – Public Service in 2015.
