Look What SHE’s Doing

Look What She's Doing

Look What SHE Did! launches empowering new program for emerging women filmmakers over 30!

In May 2024 we had our first Look What SHE’s Doing! cohort!
Watch the films they made and learn more about the impact of this program below.

Look What SHE’s Doing! is a program focused on supporting and uplifting emerging women filmmakers. Under Sarah Moshman’s leadership, a cohort of up to 12 women, female-identifying and non-binary individuals are selected to participate in the program over two weekends in May on the Mount Saint Mary’s University Doheny Campus. The first weekend consists of learning camera, audio and lighting basics, and the second weekend is a film shoot with the goal of creating two or more short documentaries to add to the Look What SHE Did! collection of films.

Look What SHE’s Doing! work does not sit alone; it is rooted in the historical precedence of the work of Look What SHE Did! which films stories of women we should never forget! Look What SHE’s Doing! seeks to reach women facing barriers to success in their lives and careers and to provide them with a new mythology of female achievement that will inspire them to keep fighting for their rights, accomplishments, and dreams.

We tend to reserve the word emerging for youth, or for the beginning of a career, but any woman in Hollywood will tell you, we are always emerging in our lives and careers.” said Deputy Director Sarah Moshman. “Look What SHE’s Doing! is for ages 30 and up and up and up, no experience required. Early career, mid-career, never planning a career in film, anyone is welcome to apply. I am extremely passionate about sharing my knowledge of using the camera as I know it is the greatest tool at our disposal when it comes to representation of our stories on screen.”

Testimonials from Pilot Program Participants May 2024

“Please keep this program going. There are no other programs like this for women in the middle of their lives. Everything is created with the younger generations in mind. Women our age usually do not qualify for internships, fellowships, grants... It's tough out there for women. There was never a time when I felt uncomfortable for not knowing something. I don't think this would have happened in a group of women 18+.”
“I just want to thank the powers that be for making this program possible. Beyond the technical knowledge of learning new equipment, it truly was so much more than that. I wish every woman could experience this.”
“The location was beautiful; the assignment had perfect play and structure. I think the scheduling for the cohort was perfect- enough time to learn, bond, and create without asking folks to take themselves too much out of their daily life. It was something that had as few barriers to *do it* as possible.”
“This was just the opportunity to re-engage my creativity and focus with production. Taking away the fear of getting hands-on with equipment is an important benchmark for this opportunity. Also, leaving this amazing experience with a production in hand is a gift! I also appreciate meeting 14 women (11 others in the cohort & 3 instructors) working in film in various capacities in film/TV. Networking is at the core of our work. So ... THANK YOU!”
“Please keep doing this!! It is so needed and so beneficial! …… This was a great inaugural cohort, and I am so excited for this program to KEEP GOING and to see how it will evolve!”
